What you feed in your heart determines what your life produces — God knows it, and He calls you to know it too.
Picture a spring at the heart of a property. Everything growing around it depends on the quality of that water. If the spring is pure, the life around it flourishes. If it is contaminated, everything it irrigates eventually suffers — even the things that look beautiful on the surface.
This is exactly how the heart functions in our lives. It is the seat of our deepest desires, the place where our true priorities take root, the center from which our words and actions pour out. We can polish the surface of a life for a long time while letting the source quietly deteriorate. And eventually, what was hidden rises to the surface.
This is why the call of Proverbs 4 is so urgent and so personal. "Be attentive to my words", the text says — as if God already knew that we tend to listen distractedly to the things that unsettle us. Guarding the heart is not a passive act. It is an active, daily discipline requiring genuine vigilance. It means paying attention to what we allow in: the thoughts we entertain, the influences we welcome, the desires we let grow without examination.
The question today is not whether you look put-together on the outside. The question is: what is the condition of your source?
